If you take a look on the map of Brazil you will see that Brazil could symbolize the great escape into a primordial, tropical paradise. From the immensity of the savage Amazon to the erotic passion of Rio's Carnival, it is a country of mythic proportions. In Brazil are stretches of unexplored rainforest, islands with magnificent tropical beaches, and endless wild rivers. Of course, there are the people themselves, who delight the visitor with their unbelievable energy.
Brazil is the largest country in Latin America. It spreads across almost half of South America, and occupies a total area of 8,547,403.5 km2. After Canada, the Russian Federation, China and the United States, it is the fifth largest country in the world. The Equator passes through the northern region and the Tropic of Capricorn cuts through the south of the country, near Sao Paulo. The country borders Venezuela, French Guiana, Suriname, Colombia, and Guiana, to the north; Uruguay and Argentina, to the south; and Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru, to the west. The Atlantic Ocean extends along the country's entire eastern coast, providing 7,367 km of coastline.
The official language in Brazil is Portuguese, still the accent and the intonation are very different from what one hears in Portugal and other former Portuguese colonies. There are also many Brazilians who are descendants of immigrants and who speak German and Italian, especially in cities in southern Brazil. Below you can explore the map of Brazil.
